| Located five
minutes south of downtown Kansas City, Derrick Thomas Academy (DTA)
is a tuition free (no charge) public school serving an enrollment of
900 Kindergarten through 8th grade students. One of two Edison Schools
in
Kansas City, MO, Derrick Thomas Academy is in
its 5th year of operation. The student population consists of a mixture
of students from the immediate neighborhood as well
as students from other areas of Kansas City, MO. With a strong focus on
curriculum and instruction as well as extra
curricular activities, Derrick Thomas Academy works to meet the needs
of the whole child. |
| DTA is committed
to our students' safety and achievement. We understand that first and
foremost we must build a
relationship with our students. Derrick Thomas Academy believes
in an active level
of parent and community involvement. Realizing our parents know their
children better than anyone, DTA staff welcomes
their suggestions and support. Parents are welcome to participate in
their child's classes at any time without an
appointment, although one-on-one discussions between teachers and
parents do require an appointment. |

setting, rich technology and higher-level thinking. |

Thomas Academy works in partnership
with the Kansas City Chiefs
Football
Association for whom the late football great Derrick Thomas played, the
Derrick Thomas Third and Long Foundation, and the University
of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC). |

ENROLLMENT PACKET
We
realize you have many options for your child’s education and
we are honored that you are considering choosing DTA. Click on
the following link to view and print the Enrollment
Application. Once you have completed the application forms
included in the Enrollment Application, please return it to our front
office with all of the
required documents. Only parents or legal guardians can enroll
students. If you are a legal guardian we will need a copy of the
legal documents affirming your guardianship. If you have any

The following documents are required before your child’s Enrollment
Packet will be accepted:
Completed 2006-2007 DTA Enrollment Packet
Copy of child’s Social Security Card
Copy of child’s Birth Certificate
Child’s current Immunization Records
Current Disciplinary Records or letter stating
there isn’t any disciplinary record
Copy of IEP and/or 504 plan (for special
education students only)
Proof of legal guardianship (notarized
documents will not be accepted)
Completed Lunch Application
Notarized Disciplinary and Address
Verification Affidavit
Two proofs of residency in the KCMO School District limits
