| The Milwaukee Academy
of Science is a special place, especially for students who love science!
Our partnerships with the Center for Science Education, Discovery World
and Marquette University gives our students unique opportunities to learn
about science. We are committed to raising the bar for science education
in the City of Milwaukee.
We have seen tremendous growth in our students
and they are steadily gaining in achievement levels—particularly in science.
For example, our 2002-2003 eighth graders gained 24 points in their average
scale score on the Terra Nova standardized test. The average student in
a national comparison group gained 11 points.
Our curriculum is challenging and designed
to meet the needs of individual learners. Success for All reading is a
research based program that has been proven to accelerate reading skills
with urban students. Our students use Everyday Math to learn about math
concepts and develop their skills.
Science is an area in which our students
have the chance to shine. Our students have science class daily beginning
at K4. The curriculum includes many hands-on experiments to encourage each
student’s natural curiosity. Our students participate in labs at the Medical
College and in science competitions.
The Milwaukee Academy of Science also recognizes
the importance of “specials” in a student’s academic program and each student
receives instruction in Art, Spanish, Music and Physical Education on a
regular basis.
