(hachartz@kenwood.edisonproject.com) or Ellie Potter (epotter@kenwood.edisonproject.com)
by October 13 if interested.

are invited to Carnival Thrillz in the Canal Park area for the Raleigh

Custodian Needed
We are looking for
individuals willing to be on call as substitute custodians for our three
buildings. If you would like to be considered for this position,
please contact Bonnie Jorgenson at 723-2345, ext. 5000, or bjorgenson@duluth.edisonschools.com.
Evacuation Drills
At this time all
three of our sites have successfully practiced an evacuation drill.
A reminder that our evacuation sites are: Kenwood at St. Benedict’s
Catholic Church, Raleigh at Irving Recreation Center, Washburn at Glen
Avon Presbyterian Church.
In the event
of a situation where students could not return to our building, students
would be housed at these locations.
Winter Clothing
Assistance
With winter around
the corner, we want to remind families that Kids’ Closet offers winter
wear for all families with students in preschool through sixth grade who
are unable to purchase these items. If you need a referral, contact
Sue Rose, Student Support Manager, at 728-9556, ext. 4006.
Non-Educational
Items
Items that distract
from learning (i.e. game boys, trading cards, head sets, MP3 players) are
not, as a general rule, to be brought to school. Bus use policies
may vary. Contact the driver to check on this. Should a student
or parent chose to bring or send these items to school, they do so at their
own risk and the school is not liable for their loss.
Recreation Group
A social skills/recreational
group is available for children ages 10-13 with disabilities. This program
is presented by the Center for Independent Living and ARC Northland.
The goal of the program is to have fun, make friends, learn social skills,
and have a good time in the community. This group meets every Monday
from 5-7 p.m. Additional fall dates are October 23, November 6, and
November 20.
The group
meets at the Center for Independent Living, 2016 West Superior Street.
Cost is $20 per session and scholarships are available. For more
details or to sign up, call 625-1400.
Incredible Exchange
Youth Volunteer Program
Applications for
the winter session of The Incredible Exchange are available at the Washburn
office. This program gives youth ages 11 and older the opportunity
to trade time and energy for fun activities such as music or dance lessons,
skiing, gymnastics or horseback riding. The winter session runs December–April.
Applications must be received no later than October 31. For more
information, visit www.theincredibleexchange.org.
Subway Peelers
Washburn students
are selling Subway and Papa Murphy’s peelers for $5 each. All proceeds
from this sale will go to our student activities fund to assist in paying
for our extra curricular activities as well as events like our honors breakfast,
no tardy party, and more. Checks can be made payable to Washburn
Junior Academy. Call Mr. Lindberg at 723-2345, ext. 1016, with any
questions.

National School
Lunch Week 9-13
Special activities
will be going on in the lunchroom during this special week. On Wednesday,
October 11, all students eating hot lunch will get an activity/coloring
book that relates to nutrition. If they take the book home, color
it, and turn it in, they can be eligible to win a prize at the end of the
month. Posters will be hung up in the cafeteria.
REMINDER TO PARENTS:
When picking up your students, please remember to go around the school
busses and to not walk between them when crossing the street. This
is a safety issue. Thank you!
