Ben Ross Public School Academy


We are an innovative, tuition-free public charter school that offers families a new choice in public education. Ben Ross Public School Academy is open to all K-8 students on a space-available basis.
The mission of Ben Ross Public School Academy is to provide a world-class education for all students in a safe and nurturing learning environment.

Special features include:

  • School divided into smaller units, called academies, ensures that students are better known and more closely guided by adults
  • Curriculum guided by clear, ambitious Michigan state standards Extended school day offering 7 hours and 15 minutes of instruction
  • All day, every day (7 hours and 15 minutes, daily) kindergarten
  • Specialist subjects including music, art, physical education, and Spanish
  • State of the art facility
  • Technology rich environment includes personal computers for each teacher and technology use integrated into classroom learning
  • Monthly testing measuring academic progress of all students in grades two through eight
  • Quarterly conferences give families a more thorough report on student's progress and provide a clear focus on individual student's needs
  • After school intramural and club activities for grades two through four
  • After school athletic program including basketball and cheerleading for students in grades five through eight
  • An inclusive special education program focused on best practices and meeting student's needs
  • A mentoring program for all teachers in their first three years of teaching
  • Dress code required for all students
  • Multiple opportunities encouraging continuous parent involvement include: organized volunteers, Parent Advisory Council, and the Charter Board of Education
  • Latchkey offered before and after school
  • An extended day tutoring program further developing student skills in reading and mathematics Summer school program offering additional reinforcement in all areas tested by MEAP

We are now accepting applications for Kindergarten through Grade Eight for the 2006-2007 academic year. Applying students must be five years of age by December 1, 2006 and must be Michigan residents. For more information on enrollment, please visit our Student Application web page.
