Position Summary:

Under moderate supervision, the candidate will provide to support a 24x7 Linux environment working from Edisons Skokie IL Data Center. Responsibilities include onsite and remote support, trouble-shooting hardware, software and network related problems, software version currency and compatibility. Candidate will be supporting a 450+ remote Linux server environment so strong shell scripting/automation experience is essential. Candidate must have extensive experience with Red Hat Linux on IBM Intel based server environments. Working experience with Veritas NetBackup is also needed.
Additionally, the Senior Linux Administrator will be responsible for assisting the infrastructure manager in the research, evaluation, design, standards, coordination, recommendation and administration of systems and procedures that ensure the protection of data processed and stored utilizing industry best practices.
Special Skills/Experience Required:
Responsibilities:
Designs, installs, configures and supports server systems (primarily Linux Red Hat with some Sun Solaris) and supporting software, including maintaining OS and DB currency and patching.
Administer daily backups, restores and disaster recovery documentation.
Serve as the Nth level escalation for complex problem solving, typically for Level 1.
Requirements:
Must have 7+ plus years of overall experience in both LINUX environments.
Solid knowledge of SMTP, POP, IMAP, LDAP, TCP/IP and DNS.
Proven support of enterprise-wide distributed Red hat Linux environments.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Must have at least experience working with Veritas Netbackup, EMC SAN product and solutions such as Clarion.
Strong knowledge of shell and Perl scripting is required.
Strong documentation and communications skills, including the ability to manage a project independently and efficiently.
Self-motivated team player, able to set priorities and manage to deadlines.
Excellent trouble-shooting, communication and customer service skills.
Must be available to support in a 24x7 production environment.
Must have working knowledge of security tools, security practices as they pertain to Unix/Linux and a track record of maintaining audit posture.
Must have experience with enterprise system monitoring and incident & change management tools.
