Edison announces additional school expansions in Michigan Monday, April 23, 2001 Edison Schools announced that it will expand its relationship with both the Inkster School District and Battle Creek School District. In the fall of 2001, the Inkster School District will open its doors to 300 additional students. Also, Southwestern Middle School, an Edison school in Battle Creek, Michigan, will be expanded to serve an additional 100 students and will become a stand alone Edison Junior Academy serving grades 6, 7 and 8. Edison began managing the entire Inkster School District this past fall. Edison began managing two schools in Battle Creek in the fall of 1998. With the addition of a school the following year, the company now manages three schools in Battle Creek.
