Edison Schools Announces New Contracts in Illinois, Delaware and Texas Tuesday, February 01, 2000 Edison Schools announced that it has signed three new contracts--launching the first Edison school in Delaware and expanding its presence in Illinois and Texas. This fall, Edison will open a K-7 charter school in Wilmington, Delaware as well as a K-5 school in Springfield, Illinois. Chris Whittle, President and CEO of Edison Schools, said, "We are excited that Wilmington and Springfield will become part of our growing national school system. These partnerships are excellent opportunities for us to provide new, high-quality educational alternatives for both communities." In addition, Edison signed a contract with the Dallas Independent School District for Fall 2000 to serve up to 6,500 students, with the potential for expansion in the future. The agreement is Edisons largest contract since its inception in 1991. The new contracts in Springfield, Illinois; Wilmington, Delaware; and Dallas, Texas follow Edisons announcement of contract renewals in Wichita, Kansas; Duluth, Minnesota; Boston, Massachusetts; and Mt. Clemens, Michigan. These are the first renewals in Edisons history.
