Edison Schools Consortium Chosen as Finalist in Effort to Manage Chester-Upland Public District Friday, January 19, 2001 Edison and its partners will propose to convert all 11 public schools in Chester-Upland, serving approximately 6500 students, to the Edison school design by the fall of 2001. The proposal will be submitted by the Chester-Upland Partnership for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, a group made up of Edison, the Chester-Upland Education Association (CUEA) and the Chester-Upland Education Support Personnel Association (CUESPA), the two unions representing teachers and school support personnel, and the Chester-Upland Community Leaders Partnership. If accepted, it would be a unique example of state and local unions, community leadership, and a private company working in partnership to manage and improve an entire school district. The proposal will include a substantial investment from Edison for professional development, new curriculum materials, and technology infrastructure.
