The buses have departed and the instructional day is done. But an Edison school is far from deserted at this hour. The after-school programs begin now. Half the students in the school may participate in one activity or another.
There's a structured program similar to the before-school one that parents and kids can choose. There are private lessons in piano, flute, and other instruments offered for a fee by local musicians. There might be lessons in Taikwando for kids of all ages.
There are also plenty of free activities, such as choir and sports clinics sponsored by the school. For instance, here's a group of kindergartners learning soccer basics from fourth-grade coaches and adult supervisors. In other seasons, it's volleyball and basketball being taught.
Groups such as Scouts hold meetings at the school. Or mentor programs, such as those between high school and elementary students, are scheduled for this time.
