Thursday, July 29, 1999
Edison has invested $5 million and committed to invest up to an additional $5 million in APEX Online Learning Inc., an Allen-backed venture specializing in digital, distance learning. Edison and APEX are planning several co-development projects.

The first anticipated project of Edison and APEX will be a pilot test of various on-line courses in the coming school year at several Edison schools. "Our investment in APEX-and our plan to co-develop educational programs for students and teachers, components of which would be delivered on line, represents an important strategic initiative for Edison," said Chris Whittle, President and CEO of Edison.

APEX Online Learning Inc. is a provider of on-line distance learning solutions for high schools. APEX offers instructor-led, full semester Advanced Placement (AP) courses to high school students who don't have access to these courses in their schools. APEX also plans to market on-line AP review products to help students prepare for AP exams.
