 Philly Middle Schoolers Compete at World Expo 2005 Thursday, August 25, 2005 A team comprised of students who attend(ed) Shaw Middle School recently had the honor of representing the United States, NASA, the State of Pennsylvania, the City of Philadelphia, and US FIRST Lego League at the FIRST JAPAN Robotics No Limits Challenge Tournament in Aichi, Japan on August 23, 2005. Three girls and three boys, 11-14 years old represented Pennsylvania. One parent per team member will accompany each child. The team practiced diligently for several weeks in anticipation of this trip. The parents have been extremely supportive escorting their children to practice each day and helping out where they could.
This was indeed an honor and an exceptional educational and diplomatic opportunity. Following the tournament, the students had the opportunity to explore the Expo 2005 (formally the World's Fair). The students, parents, and coaches couldn't wait to return to share this unique, international experience and education with the wider community. The students did a fantastic job. p>
