![]() Business and Educational Leader Dr. Leroy D. Nunery, II to Head Edison's Charter School Division Wednesday, July 20, 2005 Edison Schools, the nation's leading public school partner focused on raising student achievement, announced today that Dr. Leroy D. Nunery, II has been hired as president of Edison Charter Schools, a division of the company. As head of Edison Charter Schools, Nunnery will oversee a roster that includes 60 independent charter schools serving 27,000 students in 14 states and the District of Columbia. Lee comes to Edison from the University of Pennsylvania, where as vice president of Business Services he was responsible for overseeing the university's major commercial enterprise(s) with a total revenue of $200 million and more than 600 employees. "I am thrilled to be a part of the Edison team, and I hope to help make a difference in the way America educates its children," commented Nunery. "I will bring my passion for excellence and achievement to this challenge. My goal is to demonstrably improve the opportunities for our charter school children. He has a demonstrated ability to build trust and drive growth. He is a very strong strategic thinker and possesses a high degree of integrity. Nunery's early career included management positions with several banking institutions. He later served as vice president for business development and vice president for human and information resources at the National Basketball Association. At the NBA, key initiatives included extending the NBA brand, recruitment, strategic planning and the NBA University. Prior to joining the University of Pennsylvania, Nunnery served as managing director, Global Corporate Investment Bank and senior client manager for BankAmerica Securities LLC. Nunery has served as the national president of National Black MBA Association and is a former member of the Board of Trustees at Lafayette College. He has also served on the board of directors of Pitney Bowes, Inc. and is currently chairman of the board for the West Philadelphia Partnership. Nunery received his undergraduate degree in history from Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania and his M.B.A. from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis. While working at the University of Pennsylvania he completed an Ed.D. in Higher Education Management.
