Edison Names Four-Star School Award Winners; Twelve Principals Achieve Highest Recognition

Wednesday, October 16, 2002
The awards ceremony was held at the Edison Principals’ Leadership Conference (PLC), which took place from October 7 - 9 in Colorado Springs. At the PLC, principals attend seminars on school leadership, achievement management systems, and sharing best practices.

Twenty-five principals were honored at the ceremony with the four-star achievement awards for their strong gains in student achievement. The criteria for four-star achievement is based on a composite that includes a high percentage of short-term and long-term academic gains as well as meeting internal objectives set by each school at the beginning of the academic year. A record twelve principals received “double four-star awards,” in recognition of their ability to raise levels of academic performance, build a strong culture of achievement, and demonstrate fiscal responsibility.

Edison also recognized principals and schools new to Edison and those schools who had completed their first successful year of partnership. “We are so proud of these schools and their principals for attaining high levels of achievement. Our principals are committed to building, growing, and maintaining exemplary schools,” said Chris Cerf, Edison’s President and COO. “These awards are a testimony to the hard work and dedication that define the principals, teachers, and students at our schools across the country in the growing Edison family.”

“I am one of the many principals who found the time spent at the PLC to be just what was needed to continue making a difference in the lives of children,” said JoAnn Cason, principal of Gilmor Elementary School in Baltimore, Maryland. “I adore being treated like I am special…. I treat my students that way, and I treat my staff the same way! I spare nothing to educate the children and staff who I serve, because I am mindful that our greatest investment in life, more precious than any gold, is our children.”
