![]() Floyd Flake to Join Edison Schools Edison Schools announced that Floyd H. Flake would be joining the company as President of Edison Charter Schools and as a member of the company's Management Committee. In his new position, Flake will play a leading role in the expansion of Edison schools throughout the country. Flake is the senior pastor of the Allen African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jamaica, Queens, New York. As leader of one of the nation's most productive religious and urban development institutions, Flake's efforts have resulted in extensive community and economic revitalization and the founding of a 500-student private school. Flake previously served five terms in the U.S. Congress for the 6th District of New York. During his tenure in Congress, he established a reputation for his bi-partisan approach and his innovative legislative initiatives geared toward helping people in distressed communities. The company also announced that two senior aides to Flake would be joining Edison as well. Marshall Mitchell, Flake's former Congressional Chief of Staff, and Bernard West, a charter school consultant to Flake, will become Vice Presidents of Development at the company, supporting Flake in his efforts.
