Edison School To Open in New Orleans
Edison Schools Working with the Broadmoor Improvement Association Will Open A Much-Needed School in Post-Katrina New Orleans
Edison executives recently returned from a trip to New Orleans. Along with our local partner, the Broadmoor Improvement Association, Terry Stecz, Lee Nunery, Paul O'Neill, David Graff, and Roberto Gutierrez toured the Broadmoor neighborhood, held a press conference, and presented plans for the new Edison partnership school at a well-attended community meeting.
The school which will be named, Andrew H. Wilson Charter School (after the original Broadmoor neighborhood school) is scheduled to open its doors in fall 2007 to students in grades K through 5. Eventually the school will serve grades K - 8, with an anticipated enrollment of 675 students. This new Edison school will reside in a temporary home until the Wilson school building, which was seriously damaged by Hurrican Katrina, is completely refurbished.
Residents returning to the diverse Broadmoor neighborhood expressed excitement at the prospect of a brand new school that will offer their children a world-class education.
