Edison: A History

After opening our first four schools in August 1995, Edison has continued to grow in every subsequent year. In addition to operating schools in partnership with districts and charter boards, Edison has diversified its educational offerings to include summer, after-school, and SES programs; as well as achievement management services for school systems.

IN THE BEGINNING
Between 1992 and 1995, a team of leading educators and scholars at Edison conducted extensive research to develop a model school design enhanced by intensive school support systems. This team traveled around the world to visit exemplary schools and meet with successful educators. They investigated various technology systems and software programs; they examined financial management systems; and they reviewed hundreds of school programs and met with the creators and practitioners of those programs. This effort brought together a wide range of cutting-edge perspectives on how to improve education through the reform of curriculum, school organization, and most other elements of public education. Edison has continued conducting research in an ongoing effort to improve our delivery of education.

EDISON TODAY
Over the past ten years Edison has been providing a high-quality education for children in schools and programs in cities and communities across the country and in the United Kingdom. Students who attend Edison schools continue to make achievement gains that far outpace national averages. Edison's diverse educational offerings include Edison District Partnerships,  Edison Charter Schools, Edison Alliance, Newton Learning, Tungsten Learning, and Edison Schools UK.

LOOKING FORWARD
Cutting-edge educational thinking and innovating is the norm at Edison. Through our ongoing commitment to research and development and learning from 10+ years of school management experience, Edison continues to grow and strive toward realizing our vision of providing a world-class education for all students.
