Intensive, Ongoing Professional Development

Edison provides and facilitates ongoing daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly professional development for teachers, principals and administrators throughout the life of the Alliance partnership. This professional development is delivered by onsite Alliance advisors and Edison experts in various venues--a national leadership academy and achievement academy, a national or regional teaching academy, and weekly and monthly onsite one-on-one and group training sessions covers a wide range of subjects. All professional development and training is integrated with the tools and systems that comprise the Alliance model.

Highlights include:
  • onsite training and ongoing support throughout the year,
  • national and regional conferences, and
  • on-line and teleconference training sessions and discussion groups.

PRE-SERVICE INSTRUCTIONAL TRAINING FOR STAFF
All new professional staff attend the Edison Teaching Academy, an intensive training that introduces key aspects of the Alliance model. Alliance teachers receive practical support in instruction, classroom management, and other key elements of the Alliance program.

INTENSIVE LEADERSHIP TRAINING
The entire leadership team at each Edison Alliance partnership school has the opportunity to attend an annual intensive summer leadership conference that serves as the kick-off event for a year-round professional development system. Follow-up includes a principal leadership conference and regularly convened principal meetings.

New Edison Alliance principals, along with their leadership team members, receive comprehensive training at the Edison Leadership Team Training (ELTT) conference,  and experienced Edison Alliance principals take part in the Edison Leadership Development Academy (ELDA). This ambitious program includes:
  • an annual leadership conference,
  • mentoring and cohort groups, and
  • ongoing support throughout the year.
