National Curriculum Coordinator: Reading and Language Arts

Position Summary:
National Curriculum Coordinator: Reading & Language Arts, Prim/Elem Academies

Program Support
· Conduct regular program support visits to promote improved implementation at all Edison schools.
· Observe classes during program support visits in order to assess program implementation and future professional development needs.
· Conduct in-service training as needed as part of the program support visit.
· Model effective instruction for staff during program support visits.
· When necessary, communicate the goals of the curriculum program to faculty and parents.
· Post a report of visit issues, training conducted, and next steps as outlined in department professional guidelines on the Curriculum Site Support database within 10 days of visit.
· Provide further continuing support to the schools curriculum coordinator through documented monthly phone conferences and regular e-mail exchanges.
· Complete the bi-monthly MAP for each school in support region using documented information.
· Provide further support by participating regularly on the department's web page, sharing instructional ideas, and posting pertinent professional articles

Professional Development
· Work with the Vice President of Reading and Language Arts to develop and revise professional development training modules for the curriculum area.
· Deliver all or part of the curriculum area professional development modules during summer and fall Teacher academies.
· Work with the Vice President of Reading and Language Arts to recruit, develop and train certified trainers.
· Attend the Certified Trainers Conference sessions to train and provide feedback to certified trainers.
· Plan and deliver professional development sessions to curriculum coordinators at the Core Curriculum and Achievement Conferences.
Curriculum and Instruction
· Become familiar with the program area standards and the materials that are core to instruction.
· Under the direction of the Vice President of Reading and Language Arts, revise or supplement curriculum materials as needed.
· Under the direction of the Vice President of Reading and Language Arts, work as a problem solver in matters affecting instruction and school program implementation.
· Under the direction of the Vice President of Reading and Language Arts, integrate technology tools into the curriculum, contributing to the content web page on a regular basis.
· Attend professional conferences, read professional journals, research the latest developments in the areas of literacy and language development, and participate in other professional growth opportunities.

Student Achievement and Assessment
· Analyze reading assessment results with each schools reading coordinator and administration in order to create individual student and/or teacher intervention plans.
· Assist local reading coordinators with the regrouping of students to ensure proper placement for reading instruction.
· Analyze monthly benchmark results in reading and language arts in order to evaluate students progress and set instructional goals with each schools staff.
· Research, develop and deliver each school or region's Alignment and Embedding module and assist sites in preparing individual embedding calendars for statewide student assessments.
· Review materials on state assessments for all sites in which Edison operates and follow-up on the initial delivery of the Alignment and Embedding modules.
· Under the direction of the Vice President of Reading and Language Arts, contribute to the Edison Schools Benchmark Assessment System as needed.



Special Skills/Experience Required:
· Master's degree in reading or curriculum and instruction is preferred, but not required
· Knowledge of adolescent literacy, reading, and writing
· Minimum of two years experience as a Literacy/Language Arts Curriculum Coordinator is preferred
· Experience as a trainer in Edison programs is preferred
· Minimum of three years teaching experience required
· Must possess excellent research, written and oral communication skills
· Must be self-motivated and directed
· Must be willing to travel 60%-70% of the time
