Position Summary:
Edison Schools, Inc., a leading provider of innovative educational services in the U.S. and United Kingdom, has the following opportunities in our suburban Boston editorial office to work on a cutting-edge online student assessment system.

Writers:
Responsible for reading or math test development for customized student assessment product. This includes conducting research and developing planning documents; writing multiple-choice assessment items and reading passages according to state curriculum frameworks and high-stakes test blueprints; interpreting reliability/validity data and revising test items accordingly; and writing follow-up teaching strategies correlated to state standards.

Editors:
Edit and resolve queries regarding math and reading test items, reading passages, math graphics, teaching strategies, and correlations to state standards. Conduct quality-control assurance of test developers work for content overlap, item and response distribution, difficulty level, adherence to state blueprints, etc.

Copy Editors/Proofreaders:
Copyedit/proofread tests, passages, graphics, and related teaching strategies to ensure clarity, correct grammar and usage, and adherence to house style guides. Assist editorial manager in conducting quality-control checks.

Special Skills/Experience Required:
Required Experience for writers:
Master's degree in English, reading instruction, or mathematics, and one to three years of classroom teaching experience at the elementary or middle- school level. Curriculum expertise in reading or math, broad knowledge of state academic standards, and familiarity with K-8 reading or math standards and assessments also required. Prior test writing and/or educational publishing experience a plus. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Required Experience for editors:
Bachelor's degree in English or Communications, plus three to five years' experience in publishing, preferably educational publishing. Familiarity with K-8 reading and math curricula and state testing programs a plus.

Required Experience for proofreaders:
Bachelor's degree in English or Communications, plus two to three years' copyediting/proofreading experience, preferably in educational publishing.
