Position Summary:
The Vice President of Development will be the front-line sales executive working with targeted school districts and community-based organizations to sell in the Edison model.

This executive will build deep and broad relationships within targeted school districts  understanding their needs and driving the decision process in an unstructured and complex environment. The specifics of the role and approach will vary based on the particulars of the situation.

This role requires the ability to navigate complex financial, operational and academic performance terms in a thorough and fair manner. Importantly, it also requires someone who is passionate about education and is highly persistent to that end.

The position offers significant geographic flexibility with a number of state defined, open geographic territories spread across the country. Extensive travel (3 days/week) is expected given the hands on and community-based nature of the selling process.

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

The Vice President of Development will take advantage of the full complement of Edison's resources and work with key members of school districts/community groups including:
· Individuals in leadership positions of school districts
ü School District Superintendents and other central staff
ü School Principals
· Public Officials and policy makers with an interest in education reform
ü State school officials
ü Leaders of community organizations and policy advocacy groups
· Decision makers and those influencing decisions in schools
ü Teachers Groups
ü Parent Groups
ü Union Leaders and Members
ü Contractors and Vendors

· People and teams at Edison who lead and support the sales processes for all Edisons services will also be key relationships.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

· Determine strategy for targeting assigned geography, through an understanding of federal, state, and local student achievement expectations and the characteristics of districts most interested in the Edison Model.

· Identify and establish strong relationships with key decision-makers across a broad range of constituencies within targeted school districts and identify and establish partnerships with community-based organizations.

· Manage and execute complex agreements: conduct evaluations of client needs, present benefits of the Edison model and persuade key decision makers to support the sell-in process, negotiate contract parameters and obtain final contract approval.



Special Skills/Experience Required:
REQUIREMENTS

· Approximately ten to fifteen years business experience in sales, business development or possibly marketing roles with demonstrated success in complex sales or persuasion processes at high levels. Ideally, this will include experience selling-in consulting and/or outsourcing services.

 Four-year college degree. Masters degree a plus.

 Must be detailed oriented and able to handle multiple tasks with shifting priorities.

 Must be proficient with MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

· Demonstrated record of selling and executing complex, multi-year agreements in a multi-level, multi-stakeholder decision environment.

· Proven ability to meet and exceed sales targets.

· Effective use of conceptual selling methodology to achieve superior results.

· Prior record of successfully building strong relationships with different types of individuals working at various levels.

· Experience with urban education, community development, or related field.

· Established contacts within government/school districts or within the education establishment desired.

· Self-motivated and able to structure his/her workload and workflow independently, generally out of a home office.

 Strong interpersonal skills needed to successfully interface with clients, school
administrators and board members.

· Ability to develop a consensus at all levels among various invested groups, each with a different perspective/interest in the public school systems (e.g. teachers, parents, the media, and policy makers).

· Excellent judgment needed to effectively manage the media dynamics around changes to school leadership.

· Ability to work effectively with matrixed organizations.

· Must be able to manage efficiently and effectively within the confines and opportunities of a dynamic travel schedule (willing to travel at least 3 days per week).
