Superior Assessment

At Edison we believe that achievement and assessment go hand-in-hand. That is why we have taken the time and considerable resources to develop outstanding assessment tools that are an essential part of our Edison charter school design, these include the Benchmark Assessment System  and the quarterly Student Learning Contract.

PROVIDING A STATE-OF-THE-ART BENCHMARK ASSESSMENT SYSTEM

Edison Schools’ commitment to raising student achievement led to the development of our uniquely powerful Benchmark Assessment System. This multifaceted system’s automatic scoring, sub-group reporting, and state alignment ensures that all students succeed.

QUARTERLY STUDENT LEARNING CONTRACTS

Each quarter, partnership schools plan conference with each student's family. One teacher becomes a student's primary adviser. At the conference the adviser, the student, and his or her family discuss and complete a Quarterly Student Learning Contract (SLC). The SLC reports to the family the level of the student's work and the overall quality of performance.

The SLC, however, is more than simply a report on past progress. It is also a commitment to the future. The SLC asks the family, student, and adviser to agree on one goal for the coming quarter. Conference participants then identify what specific tasks they will perform to help meet the goal. Each participant signs the contract, ratifying their commitment to work for success over the coming quarter.
