Black History Month
During the Month of
February students will be involved in various projects and activities
to celebrate Black History Month.
- Timelines of historical events of the life of one
or more influential African American
- Short skits 2-3 minutes in length based on the
life of important African Americans
- Essays, Short stories, poems about an event or
person
- Power Point Presentations or Publisher Brochures
about an event or person
- Pictures that symbolize historic events or people
- Magazine Collages that represent historic events
or people
- Songs that represent historic events for people
* During the week of
February 23, teachers will utilize books either by or about
African-Americans during their SFA and regular classes. I am
going to assume that reading materials as such will be on going
throughout the month.
* All final products will be
displayed or acted out during our community and parent night, which is
scheduled for Thursday February 26, 2004 at 6:00 p.m. This event
will work similar to the Museum night that we had this past school
year. The following day classes will be scheduled for tours of
the building. The night will begin in the cafeteria with an
introduction and then we will break up into tour groups.
* Each class will have at least 1-2
students that will serve as tour guides during the night of February 26th.
Each chaperone will dress up as a famous African American. They will
play some sort of charades game where the audience can guess whose
these people are. We will serve finger foods during this event.
In March we are planning a fashion show
and dinner with the assistance of Dr. Gaither watch for details.
In April we will be hosting Science and
Technology Days in conjunction with the Seneca Park Zoo. Watch for more
details.
