Position Summary:
Directors of Achievement have the responsibility to support student achievement, school discipline, and the implementation of the Edison School Design at schools in their assigned geographic areas and regions. Where possible these areas and regions are aligned with those identified by the School Support Division for its Regional and Operations Vice Presidents and Directors. Directors of Achievement support student achievement, school discipline, and design implementation by providing direct support to principals and leadership teams of schools in their area. They provide pre-service and ongoing training to principals and leadership teams in these three areas at both national conferences and at the regional/area level. They work in their areas approximately 70% of the time. (About 30% of their work time involves participation in national conferences, meetings, trainings, central office work, including reporting, analysis, etc.) Directors of Achievement work with principals, site curriculum coordinators, and central office Curriculum and Instruction Directors and National Curriculum Coordinators in monitoring the implementation of core programs in classrooms. They work with one another and in collaboration with central office instructional support staff, to develop materials and establish protocols that support their work. Directors of Achievement communicate regularly with their counterparts in the School Support Division about the status of student achievement, school discipline, and design implementation of schools in their areas and regions. Directors of Achievement develop an area achievement support plan, identifying priorities, and working with the directors of the Curriculum and Instruction department to coordinate resources for their region/area based first on the needs of the area and second of those of particular schools. They also participate with their colleagues in the School Support Division to develop regional and area principal meeting schedules and agendas. In the event of a crisis at a school, the Director of Student Achievement works closely with the School Support Division leadership to develop, implement, and support an efficient, effective, and comprehensive plan for intervention.
Special Skills/Experience Required:
Student Achievement For schools in their regions, Directors of Student Achievement support student achievement by: · Communicating student achievement goals consistent with Edison expectations and available baseline and historical testing data · Working with principals and leadership teams to develop, monitor, and adjust annual Student Achievement Plans that address eight key action strategies: 1. Implement the Edison instructional program and school design 2. Analyze available data and provide Student Achievement Training 3. Differentiate instruction and support services to meet individual student needs 4. Embed norm-referenced and criterion-referenced test expectations and formats into regular daily instruction and periodic assessment 5. Monitor the implementation of the Student Achievement Plan and Edison Benchmarks 6. Provide ongoing professional development that supports all elements of the Student Achievement Plan 7. Plan and prepare for appropriate, effective and timely administration of standardized tests 8. Create a school wide culture of achievement · Assisting principals and staff with ongoing analysis of Edison Benchmark data · Supporting the use of Quarterly Learning Contracts as a reporting tool to parents, guardians, and students that measures academic progress and targets particular focus areas for growth in the Quarterly Learning Contract section. School Discipline For schools in their regions, Directors of Achievement support school discipline by: · Assisting principals and leadership teams in developing a Student Management Plan consistent with Edison policies and standards · Assisting schools in the implementation and assessment of the Student Management Plan, including the use of data to analyze and improve implementation. · Monitoring the effectiveness of the Student Management Plan · Assisting schools in adjusting and improving the Student Management Plan and its implementation Design Implementation For schools in their regions, Directors of Achievement support the implementation of the Edison School Design by: · Assisting principals and leadership teams in implementing a school organization consistent with Edison policies and standards for house teams, leadership teams, and professional development · Assisting principals and the School Support Division in ensuring that site-based leaders (academy directors, lead teachers, SSMs, curriculum coordinators, special education coordinator, etc.) occupy their roles in the school design effectively. · Ensuring that daily schedules for students and teachers are consistent with Edison standards and enable the implementation of the Edison school design · Assisting principals, the school special education coordinator, and the central office Special Education department in ensuring that schools meet state and federal special education compliance mandates and successfully implement Edison s special education program. · Assisting principals in mentoring lead teachers in their development and acquisition of leadership skills · Assisting principals in the implementation of a teacher supervision, evaluation, and performance appraisal process consistent with Partnership School Performance Standards Conferences, Training, and Inspections Directors of Achievement are responsible for the bulk of the startup training at Edisons summer Leadership Conference for new leadership teams. They are also responsible for the content and management of the fall Lead Teacher Conference and for the annual Learning Environment Training of Trainers conference. In addition, they participate in area, regional, and national principal-leadership conferences and meetings. Directors of Achievement are also expected to serve on school inspection teams, participating in one formal Edison School Inspection, outside of their region, per year.
