Position Summary:
Reading and Mathematics Directors for the Turn Around Model have the responsibility to support student achievement, school discipline, and the implementation of Turnaround model at schools in their assigned geographic regions.

Reading and Mathematics Directors in conjunction with an Achievement VP or Head of Diagnostics support student achievement, school discipline, and design implementation by providing direct support to principals and leadership teams of schools in their region. They provide preservice and ongoing training to staff at both national conferences and at school sites. They are in schools approximately 80% of the time during the school calendar year. Reading and Mathematics Directors work closely with regional and central instructional support staff and assist in monitoring the implementation of core programs in classrooms. They develop materials and establish protocols that support their work.

Reading and Mathematics Directors communicate regularly with the Achievement VP or Head of Inspection about the status of student achievement, school discipline, and design implementation of schools in their regions. They develop Regional and School Site Support Plans and coordinate the delivery of the central and regional resources of the Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Division for their region based on the needs of each school.

Student Achievement For schools in their regions, Education Vice Presidents and Directors support student achievement by: · Establishing student achievement goals consistent with Edison expectations and available baseline and historical testing data · Working with principals and leadership teams to develop, monitor, and adjust annual Student Achievement Plans that address seven key action strategies: 1. Implement the Edison instructional program and school design 2. Analyze available data and provide Student Achievement Training 3. Differentiate instruction and support services to meet individual student needs 4. Embed norm-referenced and criterion-referenced test expectations and formats into regular daily instruction and periodic assessment 5. Monitor the implementation of the Student Achievement Plan and Edison Benchmarks 6. Provide ongoing professional development that supports all elements of the Student Achievement Plan 7. Plan and prepare for appropriate, effective and timely administration of standardized tests · Assisting principals and staff with ongoing analysis of Edison Benchmark data · Developing and monitoring a school site support plan in coordination with the Curriculum Support Department · Ensuring that the evaluation of student performance and the development of Quarterly Learning Contracts are aligned with Edison, State, and local student performance standards and are consistent with Edison School Performance Standards

School Discipline For schools in their regions, Education Vice Presidents and Directors support school discipline by: · Assisting principals and leadership teams in developing a School Discipline Plan consistent with Edison policies and standards · Assisting schools in the implementation and assessment of the School Discipline Plan · Monitoring the effectiveness of the School Discipline Plan · Assisting schools in adjusting and improving the School Discipline Plan and its implementation

Design Implementation For schools in their regions, Education Vice Presidents and Directors support the implementation of the Edison School Design by: · Assisting principals and leadership teams in implementing a school organization consistent with Edison policies and standards for house teams, leadership teams, continuous improvement, and professional development · Ensuring that daily schedules for students and teachers are consistent with Edison standards and enable the implementation of the Edison school design · Assisting principals in mentoring lead teachers in their development and acquisition of leadership skills · Assisting principals in the implementation of a teacher supervision, evaluation, and performance appraisal process consistent with Partnership School Performance Standards · Developing and implementing a process for school inspections that includes a representative cross section of school leadership staff, instructional staff, and Edison central staff.



Special Skills/Experience Required:
-Education: must have a Master's, preferrably in the subject area, but nor limited to or 10 years+ exp. in teaching the subject area

- Experience teaching multiple grades in the subject area

- Supervisory experience a plus
