Position Summary:
Vice Presidents of Achievement for TurnAround Schools have the responsibility to support the implementation of the school improvement plan developed through consultation with the district, school, and Edison's Diagnostic Team.

Achievement Vice Presidents support plan implementation by providing direct support to district leadership, school principals, school-based leadership teams, and teachers of schools in their area. They provide pre-service and ongoing training to principals and leadership teams at both national conferences and at the regional level. They work in their assigned schools approximately 70% of the time while about 30% of their work time involves participation in national conferences, meetings, trainings, and central office work, including data analysis, reporting, and providing intellectual property for work in the field. Achievement VPs work closely with district personnel, principals, and Edison's New York central office instructional support staff in monitoring the implementation of the school improvement plan. They work with one another and in collaboration with central office instructional support staff, to develop materials and establish protocols that support their work.

Achievement VP's communicate regularly with the district-level liaison assigned to support the school's improvement plan about the status of the educational program in each of their schools. Achievement VP's work with the school's assigned diagnostic team to develop School Improvement Plans for each school and from these plans, further develop regional support plans, identifying priorities, and coordinating the delivery of central resources of the Curriculum and Instruction Department for their region or area based first on the needs of the area and second on those of particular schools.

Student Achievement For schools in their regions, Achievement Vice Presidents support student achievement by: · Working closely with the School Diagnostic Team in the development of the school and/or district School Improvement Plans · Working with principals and leadership teams to implement, monitor, and adjust the school's Improvement Plan based on the findings of the School Diagnostic Team. · Assisting principals and staff with ongoing analysis of achievement data. · Providing training and support in the implementation of the School's Improvement Plan. · Working with the school's assigned Reading and Math experts to determine best practice approaches for monitoring and adjusting instructional practices.

Student Management If found to be an area of concern for a particular school or cluster of schools, Achievement Vice Presidents support school discipline and the learning environment by: · Assisting principals and leadership teams in developing a Student Management Plan consistent with state and local policies and standards. · Assisting schools in the implementation and assessment of the Student Management Plan. · Monitoring the effectiveness of the Student Management Plan. · Assisting schools in adjusting and improving the Student Management Plan and its implementation. · Supporting the tracking of disciplinary data in the school's student information system. · Providing training and monitoring for the Behavior Support Team in analyzing the school's discipline data

Design and Curricular Implementation For schools in their regions, Achievement Vice Presidents and Directors support the implementation of effective school management by: · Assisting principals and leadership teams in implementing a school organization that supports student achievement. · Reviewing and providing feedback on the effectiveness of daily schedules for students and teachers. · Assisting principals in mentoring school based curriculum leaders their development and acquisition of leadership skills. · Assisting principals in the implementation of a teacher supervision, evaluation, and performance appraisal process consistent with District Performance Standards. · Assisting with the development of curriculum experts within each building to further staff development. · Monitoring work of individual school leadership teams. · Conducting site visits, with follow up reports, and the development and monitoring of action plans for school next steps. · Serving as a point of contact for principals in identifying and securing needed support from the Edison system. · Reviewing and providing feedback on instructional staffing. · Coaching and mentoring principals in instructional leadership, school culture building, student achievement, professional development of staff, student management, parent involvement, and basic building management.
