Director of Operations

Position Summary:
The Chester Director of Operations will be responsible for the full implementation and execution of the Edison design. All Chesters Edisons schools principals will report directly to the Director of Operations. The D.O. will ensure that the schools, meaning the school leadership and the staffs, do all they can do implement the Edison design well.

The D.O. will report to the Chester Ops VP and will be lateral to the Chester Achievement Vice President. It is expected that the Achievement Vice President and the Director of Operations will work as a team, and will meet at least weekly with the Ops VP to manage the site. The D.O. will be responsible for financial, operational, and academic performance of the schools.

The D.O. must be technology-proficient, must work on a laptop, must be adept with Word and Excel, have excellent written and verbal skills, and have superior interpersonal and people-management skills. The D.O. will be privy to confidential information both financially and regarding personnel and must exercise discretion with that information. Above all, the D.O. must be personally familiar in detail with all aspects of the Edison design and operational protocols. It is expected that the D.O. will visit a school at least one hour each day to observe, monitor, provide feedback, and assist on having each school implement the Edison design more fully. It is expected that these visits will vary, and that the D.O. will work with leadership teams, house teams, ADs, etc. The D.O. will be responsible for personnel reviews and other personnel-related actions.

The D.O. will be responsible for working through issues with the principals that arise in the schools and for resolving as of many of those issues at the school level as possible before they get elevated to the Ops VP and administrative level. It is expected as part of this, that CUSD and CUEA complaints or issues that are individual-school-specific be first addressed at the school level.



Special Skills/Experience Required:
§ Prior work experience with Edison Schools that includes hands-on experience with the program design and operational protocols. § Four-year college degree. Masters degree a plus. § Must be detailed oriented and able to handle multiple tasks with shifting priorities. § Prior budget management experience desired. § Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required. § Must be proficient with MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel. Experience with a laptop computer required. § Strong interpersonal skills needed to successfully interface with the schools, Chester-Upland administrators, union and Edison Schools headquarters staff.
